Romw314, I reverted your edit because apk template does not allow a display string different from the package being linked to, the apk command as written int the article {{ic|# apk add plasma}} is correct; the actual package name though is {{pkg|plasma-desktop-meta|arch=}}. It might be possible to change the command to the latter in order to have the display string and the package name match though... Will look into it shortly.

We have to include Polkit as a prerequisite

As of today, this guide is incomplete and frustrates newcomers to adopt Alpine + Plasma, as it doesn't include Polkit.

Installing Polkit alongside elogind does the trick. As per myself, I did this little guide to help myself and trying it in another machines, with success, so I consider this step as a must, at least with Wayland. I don't use X11 so I didn't test that case. -CCNMXNS (talk) 09:18, 28 March 2026 (UTC)

Romw314, I reverted your edit because apk template does not allow a display string different from the package being linked to, the apk command as written int the article # apk add plasma is correct; the actual package name though is plasma-desktop-meta. It might be possible to change the command to the latter in order to have the display string and the package name match though... Will look into it shortly. –zcrayfish (talkcontribssend email) 04:29, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

Should this page be renamed to Plasma

Since KDE has adopted Plasma as the name of the Desktop, should we change the page name from KDE to Plasma. I don't see this wiki page has any relevance to KDE project and instead it's all about Plasma Desktop and KDE Addons and KDE Applications. Prabuanand (talk) 09:10, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

Good point. Sounds like a good idea IMHO. If the title were modified/redirected, say, to 'Plasma' (or even 'KDE Plasma' or Plasma/KDE' could be ok also in my view, although KDE is already credited in the introduction), note that this desktop is currently referred elsewhere as KDE Plasma, so we might need to update that link also. Dear John3-16, Making changes in pagename requires thorough checking in linked pages, so i seldom make these nice to have changes. -Prabuanand (talk) 04:44, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

When is xf86-input-libinput needed?

What situation is this needed for? It was added in 26364 because of #15006#note_317477, updated in 26391 and changed to say it's only for Wayland users because setup-xorg-base would already install this. I have KDE installed and inputs work without this. --Encode (talk) 21:05, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

Dear Encode, I don't use KDE. If based on your testing with a fresh installation, you find this no longer the case, please remove it. -Prabuanand (talk) 04:44, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
Excellent observations by Encode and Prabuanand. Removed xf86-input-libinput as a Wayland prerequisite and offered a new Troubleshooting subheading addressing the reported Inputs not Working case, suggesting libinput-libs instead, with an encouragement to report/contribute if the case is encountered.
