From Alpine Linux

Before making a new inclusion page, creating a regular page and linking to it instead. Including the same content in multiple page can be confusing for readers. Comment added by User:WhyNotHugo

As discussed over IRC, transclusion is being used to keep pages consistent and updated. Due care must however be taken to avoid confusion to both users and editors. - Prabuanand (talk) 05:56, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

I propose the following convention for marking of categories in wikipages.

  • Wikipages should be not be listed under both parent->child categories.

Current scenario: Currently around 44 pages are listed under category:Desktop and this will keep increasing as Alpine linux desktop usage increases. Most of these 44 pages are already listed under one of the 10 sub-categories under category:Desktop. So it makes sense to remove the duplicated listing of categories in wikipages.

How to Implement: This convention should be documented in Help:Style so that future wikipages should be not be listed under both parent->child categories.

Impact: Remove the category category:Desktop from pages which are already listed under one of ten sub-categories like category:Window Managers or category:Desktop Environments etc. More such cleaning has to be carried for other categories like category:Multimedia...
