User talk:Macmpi
Macmpi, i've recently consolidated headless related information to a single page and added pointers to the same from Installation and pi pages. for this page, i have used a page previously created by user sodface which had a lot of information, but marked for deletion. I did not want to lose that information due to deletion. so i used that page. I need your help to check the correctness of this page, since this page almost entirely relies on your github page. -- Prabuanand (talk) 06:59, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi! Thanks for all the works on overall wiki pages: things are much clearer now I think.
- Yes noticed the changes on generic headless side: just did some minor tweaks, while not duplicating content from github repo (to avoid maintenance struggles).
- On Pi page, we might want to remove/put aside the Loopback image with overlayfs hack section, as this is actually not Pi specific & may generate confusion. It may serve some very specific use-cases on any platforms (like modifying firmware files on diskless install, etc).
- Also netboot section probably need refresh as it refers to files that do not exist anymore with newer kernel packaging
- PS: was your gpu_mem=16 issue on Pi02W related to some graphics settings or al?

- Thanks for the words of appreciation and for verifying and updating the page.
- The issue with Pi02W was due to my lack of awareness about raspberrypi-bootloader-cutdown package. I tried gpu_mem=16 with default bootloader.
- i've moved the "Loopback image with overlayfs" to Diskless Mode. Since currently i lack knowledge about netboot, i'm not touching that.
- Thank you for maintaining the pi wiki page in addition to maintaining the packages. I personaly used your repo and found it to be very useful.

- Thanks for consideration. Moved Loopback remains a bit pi-ish maybe (talks about SD and mmcblk). We may want to just add a warning on netboot thing then. I'm also thinking about moving the Overlay root filesystem into generic Disk Mode end (before troubleshooting), as this is also for benefit on any arch & explain usecase benefit and some limitations (just keeping a link on Pi side for reference). Thoughts? -- Macmpi 11:25, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- After thinking over your suggestion, i have created a new page for OverlayFS and moved the "Loopback image with overlayfs" along with Overlay root filesystem sections to it as they are applicable not only to pi. I definitely agree that the references to mmcblk should be changed to make the content more generic and will do in the coming days. Also need to proper pointers in the pi and Diskless pages. Also created new page SquashFS to document modloop. Thanks again for your feedback. -- Prabuanand (talk) 17:49, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
