Release Notes for Alpine 1.9.0

Alpine 1.9.0 have the following new features:

  • New faster, better package manager, apk-tools-2.0
  • New build system, abuild (we no longer use Gentoo)
  • New init system, openrc
  • New toolchain (hardened gcc-4.4.1, uclibc 0.9.30.1)
  • Support for hard-disk installs
  • Support for SATA cdroms
  • Updated kernel (2.6.30.8)

You cannot upgrade from 1n 1.8.x release to 1.9. A reinstall is required. Fortunally, that is just a question about copying over the apkovl and reboot ;)
